Have You Ever Met an Idiot Who’s More Successful Than You Are?

successful idiot

We all have met those people, right?

The people who seem like idiots, yet they’re still more successful than you? It’s irritating, isn’t it? It goes against everything we’re taught to believe. But it does happen.

Frequently, when I am coaching, a client will ask something like…

“I’m just as smart as this person, so why am I working so much harder yet making so much less than them?”

When they ask, I’m never quite sure… Do they really want the truth, or are they simply venting their frustrations?

To play it safe, I usually say nothing and wait to hear what comes out next. After a silent pause, the client speaks…

The next few words out of their mouth tell me everything I need to know. If they are serious they’ll press me and ask again. If not they’ll simply move on to the next topic.

You see, I need to know if they are serious, because if they’re not, then they aren’t ready to hear the cold, hard truth.

So what about you? Do you want to know why people half as smart as you are making 10 times more? If so keep reading…

What Would You Do if SEO Died?

11/08/2012 | 6 Comments

Guest Blog By Pete Williams

What would happen if SEO died?

In other words, what would you do if suddenly, there was no such thing as search engine optimization?

You can’t get backlinks. You can’t do keywords. You can’t do any of the traditional SEO tasks to grab that highest ranking in Google, where your site is likely to be seen.

Yet, as a small business owner, you still have to drive profitable traffic to your site. It’s still one of your core marketing tasks that can make or break your business.

So if SEO was dead, how would you do get that traffic?

Obviously, you would need a new strategy. Fortunately, there are plenty of better methods for driving traffic to your site – far outside of search engine optimization.

Today, I want to introduce you to one of the most effective ways I know to get top rankings in Google for your content without worrying about search engine optimization.

SEO Is Great But…

Again, this is a hypothetical discussion at this point. SEO still exists. And yes there are people out there searching for businesses online.

But the reality is it’s getting tougher every day to get the highest ranking in Google using traditional SEO. Google keeps changing the rules for what constitutes SEO.

So personally, I would rather skip the whole SEO process all together, and focus on alternative methods for driving traffic to your site.

One of the best ways to grow your business online is to do what I call “standing on the shoulders of giants.”

What I mean by that is you can leverage other people, other “giants” in your niche. This is a great way to attract your prospects attention and get the traffic you need without bothering with SEO at all…

Stand on the Shoulders of Giants

These giants in your marketplace have already invested years of hard work, and put blood, sweat and tears into making sure that they get traffic to their site.

They have already built a platform. They already have a following and a community. More importantly, they already have top rankings in Google.

So why not leverage that status?

Instead of killing yourself trying to get the top rankings for your blog or site, you can approach one of these high-ranking authorities in your marketplace, and ask to create content for them.

That way you can post your content on one of the top-ranked sites in Google – without having to worry about backlinks, registering your domain, or making your post “Google friendly.” You can just focus on the content itself.

A great way to start is offer to create a high-value, engaging piece of content for another person’s blog.

It doesn’t have to be a written blog post either. It can be a video or podcast – whatever that plays to your strengths.

How to Approach the Giants

Now if you’re just starting out in your business, it’s possible that you don’t know any authorities in your niche.

But even if you don’t know any giants in your niche personally, you can still approach them. You just need to approach them in the right way…

As Ed Dale often says, you need to consider: “What’s their objective?

In other words, what’s in it for them? Why would this authority want to post your content on their blog? You need to understand and support their self-interests.

Most authorities want highly engaging content for their audience. So if you’re actually creating high-quality articles and videos for their sites, that gives them value for their community.

It also shows that they have connections with intelligent people. So it helps position them as an authority.

So step 1: Create valuable content. Then deliver that content on a silver platter to the biggest giants in your industry.

This is an easy way to gain authority, traffic and attention.

It will work regardless whether SEO is alive and well for many years to come… or it dies tomorrow.

My First Free Report in Five Years, The Best Burger in Years, and Why Both Can Boost Your Profits

10/17/2012 | 66 Comments

What I’m about to share with you is not only my biggest announcement in years, but it’ll also be a HUGE marketing breakthrough for you in your own business.

But first a quick story…

A few weeks back, my Content Director, Kat was in Cincinnati for the weekend.

When she got back to the office here in Florida, she regaled all of us with the tale of what she called “the best burger she’s had in years.”

She went into painstaking detail – how the burger was at least six inches tall, slathered with burgundy wine sauce, dripping in Portobello mushrooms and covered in provolone cheese.

Kat also insisted on showing us the picture you see below.

Personally, I’m not much of a burger fan. Nor am I the food lover that Kat is.

So I have to admit, I was only half listening until she said…

“We had to get there early. You have to get to this place at least 30 minutes before it opens or you don’t get a table.”

That’s when I started paying attention… Continue…

An Intervention: Are You Too Busy to Be Successful?

09/12/2012 | 43 Comments

Busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy… bankrupt.

That’s the depressing downward spiral I see way too often in the Internet marketing space.

Especially in 2012, when running an online business can include any (or some would argue ALL) of the following…

  • Blogging
  • Guest blogging
  • Filming videos
  • Writing sales copy
  • Writing to your list
  • Managing your traffic
  • Building your funnel
  • Forum posting
  • Maintaining your fanpage
  • Keeping up with Twitter

Sadly, that list doesn’t even include helpful money-generating activities like creating products, or setting up payment options.

If right now, you’re trying to do everything above yourself… If you’re chasing your tail, and not really getting anywhere…

Then you’ll want to hear what I have to say in today’s post…

Just Because You Can, Doesn’t Mean You Should

08/22/2012 | 8 Comments

Guest Post By Pete Williams

There’s a weird theory in Internet Marketing space.

It goes something like this…. If you’re going to run an online business, you need to know how to do every single thing in Internet Marketing yourself.

And I do mean everything…

  • Designing and maintaining your website
  • Writing all your own blogs
  • Filming your own videos
  • Uploading those videos to YouTube, Facebook etc.
  • Running your own social media
  • Creating all your own information
  • Writing all your own copy
  • Recording and uploading your own podcasts.
  • Running your own traffic to your website
  • Creating your own keynote presentations.
  • Writing all your own emails to your list

I’m always surprised to hear that regular people believe they need to know how to do all these things.

More importantly, they believe their business cannot be successful until they personally learn how to do everything I mentioned above (and keep in mind this is just a partial list here).

If you find yourself constantly running in circles, trying to do all these things, then you’ll want to hear the strategy that I’m going to reveal here. First I want to put this in perspective for you…

What’s Holding You Back from Getting Everything You Want

08/14/2012 | 46 Comments

What I’m about to share with you can have a profound effect on not just your business, but all areas of your life.

It’s one of those issues that we all like to believe doesn’t really affect us. We tell ourselves “we grew out of that a long time ago.” Or, “sure that affects other people, but not me.”

We all pay a steep price for ignoring it.

I see this with my business clients all the time. These would-be entrepreneurs look at their business performance and they can’t understand why their struggling.

They have no idea what’s really holding them back.

Yet it’s obvious to me. It’s the same thing that holds all of us back in all aspects of our lives…

The Entrepreneur’s Reality Check: What’s Stopping You from Getting the Success and Freedom You Want

07/20/2012 | 67 Comments

Imagine for a moment that every promise for every product, program or service you have ever bought had already come true.

That you were, in fact, already reaping the rewards of all the time, energy and investment you’ve sacrificed.

What would your life be like right now?

How would your life be different?

Well, when I ask new clients these same questions, they tell me…

  • They would have already achieved the positioning they were after…
  • They would already be a leading authority in in their market or niche…
  • They would be making the money they’ve always dreamed about…
  • And have the financial security that is currently missing in their life.

Yet, when I ask them what they’d need to achieve they give me one of a hundred different answers…

All of which are wrong.

In other words, all the things they think they need will never actually get them what they really want.

And that’s the purpose of this post…

Stephen R Covey Of 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People Dedication Obituary
Stephen Covey, 1932-2012

Stephen R. Covey, author of “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People,” died unexpectedly on Monday. The world is saddened by his passing, but has been blessed these 79 years by his life.

He was a friend, but even more, he was a true benefactor to the betterment of our entire world. An obituary in USA Today started out by calling him “A force of human nature…”

They talked about how his “seven habits” have been woven into the emotional wellbeing of multimillions of people’s lives – in almost every walk of life – from self-help to the corporate boardrooms of big businesses.

Warning: A Lack of Focus Can Kill Your Business

07/11/2012 | 33 Comments

To accomplish any objectives you set, you have to focus. Plain and simple.

Specifically, you have to be able to focus on the things that are essential to your business.

That’s what separates the opportunity seekers online from what I call “strategic entrepreneurs.”

The opportunity seeker is in a virtually constant state of un-focus. He’s scouring the internet landscape trying to find out “what else can I do?” “Where is my next opportunity going to come from?”

The strategic entrepreneur, on the other hand, focuses on the essential. An entrepreneur is constantly asking: “what’s the least I can do to make my vision of success a reality?”

Big difference.

Whether you’re an entrepreneur or an opportunity seeker, you are constantly assaulted by opportunities and other distractions vying for your attention.

So it’s absolutely vital that you learn to think like a strategic entrepreneur and learn to focus. I’ll show you how. But first, a quick test to see if this applies to you…

3 Deceptively Simple Questions that Make Millionaires Online

07/10/2012 | 15 Comments

Right now, if I asked you “what’s your overall business strategy?” would you…

1) Look at me confused and say nothing
2) Fumble your way to a semi-coherent answer
3) Or, would you easily answer the question (as if by rote)?

Sadly, if you’re like most entrepreneurs, you’d end up in group 1 or 2.

And that means you’re needlessly sacrificing profits, while working more than you need to.

Don’t believe me? Give me two minutes and I’ll prove it to you…
