A Working Epiphany: Why 95% of Marketers Are Marketing Wrong

06/19/2013 | 13 Comments

Today, I’m interrupting our regularly scheduled blog series to bring you something NEW. Something different.

Something that until now… I’ve never revealed before anywhere else.

It’s an epiphany that I’ve come to recently, while doing some research for my upcoming Report Writing Workshop.

Right now, I’m actually working on all my presentations for this two-day workshop. So all this week, I’m locking myself in my back office cigar bar until I’m done with everything I’m preparing for this event.

But even though I have a lot on my plate this week, I still want to take some time out to share a glimpse at what I’m working on.

Because frankly, I’m making some HUGE breakthroughs that you need to know about.

10 Things I’ve Learned From Building a Multi-Million Dollar Internet Business

03/06/2013 | 86 Comments

Internet Business Guru Rich Schefren

It’s been a fascinating day here at Strategic Profits.

First, I started the day with filming a content video with my Founders Club Membership Director, Chuck Dolce. Basically, Chuck was interviewing me about why I have used free content like my reports to build my Internet business.

In this video, I revealed several strategies you can use in your own free content. We’ll be releasing this video next week, so be on the lookout for that.

Then I got on my Business Growth System (“BGS”) call. During the dispatch, I gave clients four of the 50 or so strategies that I use to write my free reports. That includes the exact strategy I used to make my seven free reports go viral.

If you’re a client, you can listen to the recording when it’s released next week.

But the most intriguing part of my day happened around 2:30 this afternoon. That’s when my Content Director, Kat burst into my back office. She pushed a document I had never seen before in my hands. The document was called…

A $20 Million Secret You Can Use This Week…

02/20/2013 | 22 Comments
A $20 Million Secret

I want to get right to the point today.

Fact is: I have a secret to share with you that led to the massive success of my seven free reports (and led to over $20 million in sales).

It’s one of the ways I’ve been able to create customers “out of thin air.” In other words: Clients seek me out, instead of the other way around.

It’s a writing secret that you can use in your own free content from now on. You can start using it as early as this week, to write much more compelling content.

It’s called “framing the problem.”

I have used this strategy in every one of my free reports so far, to not only give my prospects value, but to create demand for my products.

Let me show you how it works…

Business is NOT Common Sense

Business is NOT Common Sense

Yes, business is NOT common sense.

I can think of at least a dozen different situations in business where following common sense wisdom wouldn’t help.

In fact, doing what “makes sense” is much more likely to lead to your frustration and often failure as an entrepreneur.

Don’t believe me?

Here are a few common sense ideas off the top of my head that can and do kill online businesses…

  • “The entrepreneur who works the longest hours will be the most successful.” (Actually, the opposite is true. Entrepreneurs who work the least tend to earn the most.)
  • “If you’re not successful with a task, keep at it until it works.” (Again the opposite is true. If something isn’t working, it’s time to change… not continually fail.)
  • “I’ll just copy what the most successful guys do.” (Following a mentor is one thing, but blindly copying others’ business strategies is NEVER the answer.)

This is why so many entrepreneurs struggle. They believe they can build and grow a business doing what “makes sense.”

Finding Your Sweet Spot: How to Build a Business Based on YOU

Finding Your Sweet Spot

“I don’t care how I do it… I need to make money now. Can you help me?”

Since I started in Internet Marketing, I’ve heard some version of that sentence dozens, if not hundreds of times. From clients… from prospects… even from strangers cornering me at conferences.

And I feel for all of them – I really do.

Because 12 years ago, I was exactly where they are today. At the time, I had just started out online. I was doing everything that the so-called experts told me I SHOULD do to make money.

I was diving into all the hottest niches, trying all the latest tactics, and staring at my computer at all hours of the day trying to gain an edge online.

And I was miserable.

It was only when I took a step back and really considered my strengths that I eventually developed the business that I have now. It’s a business designed around ME… around what I love to do… not what others tell me I should do.

In other words, I found what I call my “sweet spot” in my marketplace. Today I want to point you in the right direction to discover your own sweet spot, so you can build a business based on who YOU are…

Have You Ever Met an Idiot Who’s More Successful Than You Are?

01/21/2013 | 18 Comments
successful idiot

We all have met those people, right?

The people who seem like idiots, yet they’re still more successful than you? It’s irritating, isn’t it? It goes against everything we’re taught to believe. But it does happen.

Frequently, when I am coaching, a client will ask something like…

“I’m just as smart as this person, so why am I working so much harder yet making so much less than them?”

When they ask, I’m never quite sure… Do they really want the truth, or are they simply venting their frustrations?

To play it safe, I usually say nothing and wait to hear what comes out next. After a silent pause, the client speaks…

The next few words out of their mouth tell me everything I need to know. If they are serious they’ll press me and ask again. If not they’ll simply move on to the next topic.

You see, I need to know if they are serious, because if they’re not, then they aren’t ready to hear the cold, hard truth.

So what about you? Do you want to know why people half as smart as you are making 10 times more? If so keep reading…

What Would You Do if SEO Died?

11/08/2012 | 6 Comments

Guest Blog By Pete Williams

What would happen if SEO died?

In other words, what would you do if suddenly, there was no such thing as search engine optimization?

You can’t get backlinks. You can’t do keywords. You can’t do any of the traditional SEO tasks to grab that highest ranking in Google, where your site is likely to be seen.

Yet, as a small business owner, you still have to drive profitable traffic to your site. It’s still one of your core marketing tasks that can make or break your business.

So if SEO was dead, how would you do get that traffic?

Obviously, you would need a new strategy. Fortunately, there are plenty of better methods for driving traffic to your site – far outside of search engine optimization.

Today, I want to introduce you to one of the most effective ways I know to get top rankings in Google for your content without worrying about search engine optimization.

SEO Is Great But…

Again, this is a hypothetical discussion at this point. SEO still exists. And yes there are people out there searching for businesses online.

But the reality is it’s getting tougher every day to get the highest ranking in Google using traditional SEO. Google keeps changing the rules for what constitutes SEO.

So personally, I would rather skip the whole SEO process all together, and focus on alternative methods for driving traffic to your site.

One of the best ways to grow your business online is to do what I call “standing on the shoulders of giants.”

What I mean by that is you can leverage other people, other “giants” in your niche. This is a great way to attract your prospects attention and get the traffic you need without bothering with SEO at all…

Stand on the Shoulders of Giants

These giants in your marketplace have already invested years of hard work, and put blood, sweat and tears into making sure that they get traffic to their site.

They have already built a platform. They already have a following and a community. More importantly, they already have top rankings in Google.

So why not leverage that status?

Instead of killing yourself trying to get the top rankings for your blog or site, you can approach one of these high-ranking authorities in your marketplace, and ask to create content for them.

That way you can post your content on one of the top-ranked sites in Google – without having to worry about backlinks, registering your domain, or making your post “Google friendly.” You can just focus on the content itself.

A great way to start is offer to create a high-value, engaging piece of content for another person’s blog.

It doesn’t have to be a written blog post either. It can be a video or podcast – whatever that plays to your strengths.

How to Approach the Giants

Now if you’re just starting out in your business, it’s possible that you don’t know any authorities in your niche.

But even if you don’t know any giants in your niche personally, you can still approach them. You just need to approach them in the right way…

As Ed Dale often says, you need to consider: “What’s their objective?

In other words, what’s in it for them? Why would this authority want to post your content on their blog? You need to understand and support their self-interests.

Most authorities want highly engaging content for their audience. So if you’re actually creating high-quality articles and videos for their sites, that gives them value for their community.

It also shows that they have connections with intelligent people. So it helps position them as an authority.

So step 1: Create valuable content. Then deliver that content on a silver platter to the biggest giants in your industry.

This is an easy way to gain authority, traffic and attention.

It will work regardless whether SEO is alive and well for many years to come… or it dies tomorrow.

My First Free Report in Five Years, The Best Burger in Years, and Why Both Can Boost Your Profits

10/17/2012 | 66 Comments

What I’m about to share with you is not only my biggest announcement in years, but it’ll also be a HUGE marketing breakthrough for you in your own business.

But first a quick story…

A few weeks back, my Content Director, Kat was in Cincinnati for the weekend.

When she got back to the office here in Florida, she regaled all of us with the tale of what she called “the best burger she’s had in years.”

She went into painstaking detail – how the burger was at least six inches tall, slathered with burgundy wine sauce, dripping in Portobello mushrooms and covered in provolone cheese.

Kat also insisted on showing us the picture you see below.

Personally, I’m not much of a burger fan. Nor am I the food lover that Kat is.

So I have to admit, I was only half listening until she said…

“We had to get there early. You have to get to this place at least 30 minutes before it opens or you don’t get a table.”

That’s when I started paying attention… Continue…

An Intervention: Are You Too Busy to Be Successful?

09/12/2012 | 43 Comments

Busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy, busy… bankrupt.

That’s the depressing downward spiral I see way too often in the Internet marketing space.

Especially in 2012, when running an online business can include any (or some would argue ALL) of the following…

  • Blogging
  • Guest blogging
  • Filming videos
  • Writing sales copy
  • Writing to your list
  • Managing your traffic
  • Building your funnel
  • Forum posting
  • Maintaining your fanpage
  • Keeping up with Twitter

Sadly, that list doesn’t even include helpful money-generating activities like creating products, or setting up payment options.

If right now, you’re trying to do everything above yourself… If you’re chasing your tail, and not really getting anywhere…

Then you’ll want to hear what I have to say in today’s post…

Just Because You Can, Doesn’t Mean You Should

08/22/2012 | 8 Comments

Guest Post By Pete Williams

There’s a weird theory in Internet Marketing space.

It goes something like this…. If you’re going to run an online business, you need to know how to do every single thing in Internet Marketing yourself.

And I do mean everything…

  • Designing and maintaining your website
  • Writing all your own blogs
  • Filming your own videos
  • Uploading those videos to YouTube, Facebook etc.
  • Running your own social media
  • Creating all your own information
  • Writing all your own copy
  • Recording and uploading your own podcasts.
  • Running your own traffic to your website
  • Creating your own keynote presentations.
  • Writing all your own emails to your list

I’m always surprised to hear that regular people believe they need to know how to do all these things.

More importantly, they believe their business cannot be successful until they personally learn how to do everything I mentioned above (and keep in mind this is just a partial list here).

If you find yourself constantly running in circles, trying to do all these things, then you’ll want to hear the strategy that I’m going to reveal here. First I want to put this in perspective for you…
